Xiaomi just unveiled their first flagship for 2018 which is the Mi Mix 2S with a Snapdragon 845 & many more top notch specifications. Though, thankfully it does not come with a Notch.
The design looks pretty similar to the last years’s Mi Mix 2 which explains why Xiaomi called it the Mix 2S instead of the Mix 3. However, the real upgrade has been done, in terms of specifications.

The main highlights for the Mi Mix 2S are it’s Cameras, AI functionalities, fast Wireless Charging & of course an Affordable price point.
First let’s talk about those Rear Cameras. Xiaomi has finally introduced Dual Rear Cameras in their Mix series & in the Mix 2S they have implemented a 12MP Telephoto secondary Camera for implementing Portrait Mode. The primary Camera is a 12MP f-1.8 Camera which comes with 4-axis Optical Image stabilization so, that should be able to help with low-light scenarios.
In the front, Xiaomi has integrated the same 5MP sensor from last year which shall be able to take portrait shots as well.
The Camera also has some AI functionality built in so, Scene Detection is definitely there. Also, the camera software now also uses AI to differentiate between the Subject & the Background to produce more accurate portrait shots.
DxOMark Has also given a whopping 97 rating to the Mi Mix 2S’s Camera with 101 for Photo & 88 for Video.

Though this is not as Good as something like the Pixel 2 (98) or the Galaxy S9+ (99) but, considering that the Mix 2S is coming from Xiaomi, it’s pretty impressive.
Xiaomi has also introduced a new version of their AI powered Voice Assistant but, it’s probably limited to China as it mainly integrates seamless experience with the Chinese language & to be frank, non-Chinese users are happy with Google Assistant so, I don’t think they would like another Voice Assistant in the phones anyway.
Lastly let’s talk about the pricing. The Mi Mix 2S starts at 3299 Yuan (~ $525) for the Base (6GB, 64GB) variant which increases to 3599 Yuan (~ $573) for the 6GB, 128GB variant & 3999 Yuan (~ $636) for the 8GB, 256GB variant. So, prices look pretty competitive & the device will be on sale in China starting next week. But, availability outside China is still a big question mark.
