Xiaomi has announced the Redmi S2 in China and guess what, it’s using a Snapdragon 625 again! Xiaomi has this huge track record of using the Snapdragon 625 in their devices since the Redmi Note 4 and after that, we got the Mi 6X (Mi A1), Redmi 5 Plus (Redmi Note 5) & now we have the Redmi S2 joining the list. Here are the specifications,
Redmi S2 Specifications
- 5.99 inch 1440×720 (18:9) Display
- 14nm Snapdragon 625 SOC
- Adreno 506 GPU
- 3GB/4GB RAM
- 32GB/64GB Internal Storage
- 12MP f-2.2 (main) + 5MP (depth sensing) Dual Rear Cameras
- 16MP Selfie Shooter
- 2G/3G/4G Cellular Network Connectivity
- Bluetooth 4.2
- 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
- 3080 mAh Battery
- Android Oreo
Now, these specifications do look decent for a low-budget device in 2018 but, the only problem here is the Display. It’s a 18:9 720P Display when the Snapdragon 625 can handle 1080P Displays without any problem. The device is priced at 999 Yuan for the 3GB, 32GB variant which is about 10.5K INR and at that price, even the Redmi Note 5 sports a 1080P Display with the same SOC. Xiaomi has included Face Unlock which requires a blink of the user’s eye for unlocking & they have also included some AI features in the Camera which they claim to be quite helpful in terms of Edge Direction in Portrait Shots.
So, though some new 2018 things have been included in the Redmi S2 & Xiaomi will probably keep the price lower if they launch the device in India but, was this device really needed in 2018? Maybe not.
