Samsung has finally unveiled their new flagship SOC but, it’s not being called the Exynos 8900 but, Samsung is calling it the Exynos 9810. This is probably the SOC we’ll be seeing in the Galaxy S9, S9+ & Note 9. However, in the US these devices will ship with the Snapdragon 845 instead. As, Samsung announced that their 8nm chips were ready for production, we all kinda expected that the next flagship will be using it. But, it turns out to be again using the 10nm Process technology instead. But, it’s packing some other interesting features so, let’s talk about that anyway.
Samsung claims that, the Exynos 9810 is using the 3rd Gen custom CPU cores, an Upgraded GPU, a Gigabit LTE Modem that has 6CA support. This literally makes the Exynos 9810 the first SOC to ship with 6CA support. Samsung says that it’s not a regular 10nm Process Technology & instead they have used a 2nd Generation 10nm Process. But, we are kinda sure that it’ll make less difference in Performance & Efficiency and more difference in Marketing instead.
We missed the 8nm & 5G Technologies in the Exynos 9810 and this is something that makes us nervous about the upcoming Snapdragon 845. Samsung & Qualcomm has been moving together in the SOC game for a long time and this may also mean that the Snapdragon 845 will also not be upgrading to 8nm & stick to the regular 10nm Process Technology instead. So if that’s the case, we will be pretty disappointed at this point. So, Qualcomm we hope you’ll at least try to not disappoint us.
Anyway, we can’t wait to see how how the Exynos 9810 will perform in real life. Especially where it stands compared to Apple’s A11 Bionic chip.
